Max Gallagher (she/they)

"Puck" in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM
"Peter" in ROMEO & JULIET

I feel caught, shuffling through my layers of selfhood as a deck of cards; who shall I be today? A Queen? A Lover? A Joke? Or shall I spool upon myself, like coils of dribbling honey, impose infinite density on my finite form, make of myself something surreal, a hyperobject, loose about my boundaries and definitions. I’ll dissolve amongst the many thousand hoards of small gods, the unnamed, unseen, unknown insects scuttling just out of eye-line, cradling crumbs for the night’s eventual feast. Night. Silence - save for the constant hum of the open sky, and the quiet pains of humans in labor. There is the sound of birds, in the morning, singing to rouse the sun from her cosmic web. There is the cyclic growling that comes from within, the belly grown slim, aching. There are so many things, everywhere. There are so many of us. I am One.
